Secondary Education

We can all recall an inspirational high school teacher. A degree in secondary education can be your path toward becoming an inspiration to others.

Secondary Degree Options

The College of Education offers two pathways for initial teacher certification in secondary English, mathematics, science or social studies through the Master of Teaching (M.T.).

The Bachelor of Art/Science plus Master of Arts in Teaching track allows our undergraduates to gain secondary teaching certification and a master’s degree in only five years.

The Master of Art in Teaching for Career Changers is for people who have already earned a bachelor’s degree or are just finishing up an undergraduate program and now want to become a teacher.

The program is designed for you to earn two degrees in five years of school. Some students can accelerate their program and complete both degrees in just four years, depending on AP/IB/Dual enrollment courses taken. You will earn a Bachelor of Arts or Science and a Master of Teaching degree and be prepared to teach high school in your chosen subject.
