Music Pedagogy

The ability to play an instrument is a gift to be shared. Through graduate-level study in music pedagogy, you will enhance your performance skills, increase your knowledge of instrument repertoire and gain an understanding of appropriate pedagogies. You will also apply these skills through supervised teaching of a wide range of students.

Graduate Degrees

The School of Music offers a Master in Music with a concentration in pedagogy. The program includes two distinct tracks: a recital track and a thesis track. Both tracks include a bachelor's degree (or the equivalent) in piano performance or piano pedagogy as a prerequisite. Similarly, the Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Pedagogy has two tracks: the recital/treatise track and the dissertation track.

I decided to continue my doctoral study in piano pedagogy after finishing my master's degree at the University of South Carolina not only because UofSC has one of the best piano pedagogy programs in the country but also because I genuinely appreciate the supportive and enthusiastic faculty and friendly colleagues.
