What to Expect

The information science major focuses on effectively collecting, storing, managing, preserving and using information to benefit businesses and nonprofits. Information science brings together technology, information and users to achieve strategic goals of organizations and ultimately improve society.

As an information science major, you will acquire skills needed for managing the life-cycle of information while connecting users to essential information. Information science students develop strong technical skills connecting diverse communities with means to navigate and succeed in today’s complex information world. Information scientists are essential professionals across nearly every industry, from banking to government to medicine.

Opportunities don't end there! For information science students who would like to pursue a graduate-level degree, the School of Information Science offers three graduate-level degree programs, a certificate program and two dual degree programs.

 

Undergraduate Degree

B  B.S. in Information Science

Part of the College of Information and Communications, the School of Information Science is one of the nation's youngest and most distinguished schools of information science education. Its mission is to provide and promote the highest levels of education and leadership in information sciences, services, and studies through outstanding teaching, research and service.

The following courses fulfill some of the requirements for a major in information science:

• Introduction to Management Within Information Environments

• Communication and Information Transfer
