In the Department of Philosophy, we'll teach you how to examine a complex problem,
analyze its internal logic, question assumptions, and approach solutions from unique
vantage points.
What Can You Do with a Philosophy Degree?
The question is, what can't you do with a philosophy degree? Every profession needs
people who can think logically and communicate effectively. Philosophy majors are
sought after in fields like law, medicine and business. Philosophy majors, on average,
outperform other majors on the GRE, LSAT and GMAT, making it a great second--or first--major
if you're interested in pursuing a graduate or professional degree. If you think a
double major might be for you, we recommend you speak to your regular academic advisor
as well as our faculty advisor in philosophy and we encourage you to apply today.
Help When You Need It
We're dedicated to your success. In addition to the academic success resources the university offers, our faculty is available to work with you outside the classroom.
You may need a little extra help with class material, or you may enjoy our Philosophy
Colloquia, which is offered three times per semester given by faculty outside the
department.
Leadership Distinction
The Graduation with Leadership Distinction program offers several pathways to engagement beyond the classroom, including advocacy, professional
and civic engagement, making it a natural fit for a philosophy major. And our clubs and organizations provide a great way for you to share your excitement and interest in philosophy with others.
